About
The Wetlands Workgroup facilitates the implementation of projects that protect, restore and enhance tidal and non-tidal wetlands across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Restoration efforts are focused on projects that benefit species requiring high-quality wetland habitats (including American black duck) and incorporate water quality benefits where possible. Additionally, the workgroup coordinates the collection and organization of wetland restoration data reported by the Chesapeake Bay Program.

Projects
Non-tidal Wetlands Communication Strategy
CompleteThis research project explored current perceptions of non-tidal wetlands and barriers to participation in wetland restoration, and developed a targeted strategy to better engage local stakeholders.

Understanding and Addressing the Impacts of Wetland Mowing
CompleteThis GIT funded project looks into the intersection of vegetated tidal wetland mowing with wetland protection laws, regulations and policies in Virginia and Maryland.
2022 Restoring the Wetlands of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Workshop
CompleteThis workshop convened key stakeholders to develop strategies and produce an action plan to accelerate progress towards the Wetlands Outcome.
GIT-Funded Marsh Data Synthesis Project
CompleteThis project developed a methodology that synthesizes information in a format that can be used to assist with marsh conservation and restoration decisions under multiple sea level rise scenarios.
